Genoa, Italy

136_3609.JPG We just landed in Milan from Boston.  This is 8:00 AM in Italy and 2:00 AM Boston time.  My Dad picked us up and drove us to Genoa, our first stop.

135_3572.AVI (Big movie file, might take a long time to load, don't try it over the phone lines!) This is Nervi Harbor at the Eastern end of Genoa.  It is right near my apartment.  Kayakers ride the waves.

135_3580.JPG This is the narrowest street I've ever seen.  Cars can barely squeeze down it.  The buildings and the streets were built way before cars were invented, and they had no idea that some day they would want to have wide streets for cars.  Once we got stuck driving home on one of the "big" streets of Nervi because people park on both sides of the road and there was room for only one way of traffic at a time.  Two cars going in each direction met in the middle and we had to back all the way up to the beginning.

136_3610.JPG We are at Nervi Harbor.  The water of the harbor is a little polluted so people are not supposed to swim.  But we saw someone swimming.  The water was 10 degrees C, that's 50 degrees F!

136_3611.JPG We're at the aquarium of Genoa.  It is supposed to be one of the best of Europe.

136_3622.JPG Nemo, Dori, and Marlin, and Bubbles, from "Finding Nemo", are in this picture.  Can you find them?

136_3638.JPG This is the view from the walkway near the harbor. My apartment is not in the picture.

136_3642.JPG I am standing on the walkway above the harbor. My apartment is not in the picture.

136_3650.JPG From left to right, me, my sister, and my dad carrying other sister, standing in front of the Mediterranean sea.

136_3652.JPG A very unusual toilet. This was in a restaurant. It is very hard to use, believe me.

136_3653.JPG My sisters and I, eating Gelato. (Italian ice cream). It is better than American ice cream.

136_3645.AVI (Big movie file, might take a long time to load, don't try it over the phone lines!) Listen to my explanation of where we live.

132_3234.JPG  We are in the town of Riomaggiore, the furthest of the 5 towns in the Cinque Terre.

132_3238.JPG We are still at the Cinque Terre in Italy. It was a very sunny day.

132_3239.JPG This is looking down from the walkway in the Cinque Terre. It was sunny so you can see the sunlight reflecting off the water. Notice how blue the water is.  The 1-kilometer walkway connects the towns of Riomaggiore and Manarola.  It's called the "Via dell'Amore", which means "Love Street" in Italian.

136_3670.JPG None of the restaurants had places to sit and eat so we took our food and sat on the steps.

136_3671.JPG Most of the walls in the Cinque Terre were decorated with art, like the one behind me.

136_3685.JPG I am walking on a path in the Cinque Terre over the Mediterranean sea.

136_3687.JPG Every day after lunch we get Gelato, but all the Gelato shops in Cinque Terre were closed, so the kids settled for fruit smoothies and skittles while the grownups got wine.

136_3688.JPG This is a street in a town called Manarola in the Cinque Terre. You can't drive to the Cinque Terre because the land is so steep that the highways don't come here.  We had to walk up and down all the hills.
