Florence, Italy

137_3737.JPG We stayed in a convent on the outer part of Florence.

137_3740.AVI "Aiuole" is the only word in the Italian Language that contains all five vowels.  It means flower beds.

137_3713.JPG In Florence we climbed to the top of Giotto's Bell Tower next to the cathedral.  It had 404 stairs and was much taller than the tower of Pisa!

137_3723.AVI (Big movie file, might take a long time to load, don't try it over the phone lines!) Panorama from the top of the bell tower.

137_3715.JPG We called the main door to the cathedral the "Decorated Door".  It was made of bronze, which is a metal. I wonder how long it took to make this big, big door out of decorated metal, because it's definitely taller than four grown-ups.

137_3716.JPG A detail of the Decorated Door.

137_3717.JPG This is a kid's-eye view of the Decorated Door.

137_3725.JPG The underside of the dome of the cathedral had lots and lots of pretty pictures.  They tell stories about God.

137_3727.JPG There were lots of interesting sculptures in this outdoor museum.  If sculptures of naked people bother you, do not click on the next link.

This is an extremely famous statue of David, by Michelangelo. If naked sculptures bother you, don't click on this link:  137_3728.JPG Over his shoulder he has the sling he used to kill the giant, Goliath.

137_3729.JPG My sisters and I are balancing this huge sculpture of a lion on our heads!
