Topics of Current Work

  • Surface tension related phenomena e.g.
    • spreading of oil on water with a chemical reaction at the interface (see PoF paper from 2006)
    • liquid lenses and potential applications in microfluidics
    • pulling glass fibers and similar processes
  • Aerodynamics, but more specifically
    • the design of humpback whale flippers (see paper from 2008)
  • Colloidal stuff
    • continuation of the work on ellipsoidal particles at air/water interfaces based on experiments recently published in PRL.

It seems that it won't take too long before windmills, large ventilators, and some aircraft wings resemble bumpy humpback whale flippers... which is very amusing.
